UN INFORME ELABORADO por un conocido think tank destaca el progreso que está teniendo lugar en Iraq. Y no, no es obra de los satánicos Project for the New America Century o el American Enterprise Institute; ni de ningún otro nido de esos neoconservadores tan malos. Es del Ibn Khaldoun Center for Development Studies en El Cairo, Egipto (aunque intento entrar en su web, me da un mensaje de que no estoy autorizado para acceder). Según la Associated Press,

Despite war and occupation, Iraq has seen a surge in human rights organizations, political parties and independent newspapers - entities almost unheard of under Saddam Hussein, said a report by an Arab think tank.

The report by Egypt's Ibn Khaldoun Center for Development Studies welcomed the promise of elections, the freedom of expression and independence of the media but was careful not to credit the Americans for the progress.

"Even though all indications of political rights and human rights mentioned in this report clearly illustrate that the situation in Iraq after occupation is much better than Saddam Hussein's Iraq, the truth remains that any situation would have been better than Saddam Hussein," the report said.

Mmmmmm... ¿y cómo creen que eso ha sido posible?

Hay que destacar que el ICDS fue cerrado durante tres años y su fundador, Saadeddin Ibrahim, pasó una temporada a la sombra acusado por Mubarak de dañar la reputación del país. Posteriormente, la orden fue anulada por el Tribunal Supremo egipcio, tras una campaña internacional coordinada por Human Rights Watch. Si Ibrahim y los suyos fueran agentes de la CIA -como seguramente algunos tendrán tentación de pensar al leer sobre el informe- no hay duda de que no habría habido campaña en su favor, y seguirían pudriéndose en la cárcel.
